Defining our Priorities

A minister once preached a sermon during which he said, “We MAKE PROVISIONS for the things we REALLY want to do.”He said, “We PREPARE for them, we SET ASIDE the fee, we WRITE them on the calendar or LOG it in our phone (datebook) and we simply MAKE IT HAPPEN.” Why? Because we REALLY WANT to do it. We REALLY WANT to go there. We REALLY WANT to take part.He said, “There may be times when we GENUINELY forget but not every time there is something we want to do.”

We’ll STAND IN LINE for tickets to a concert but CAN’T GET OUT OF BED for church.  We MAKE APPOINTMENTS with people over serious matters then SHOW UP LATE or KEEP THEM WAITING as if their time is not important.  We PROMISE to take our kids to the movies but a TV program comes on and we MAKE EXCUSES so we don’t have to go.

We ENCOURAGE OUR CHILDREN to do well in school but DON’T MAKE the EXTRA EFFORT to go to their graduation or we go dressed in jeans, a tee-shirt and flip flops rather than dress up to show that we are proud of them.

PRIORITIZING things and events in our lives REVEALS WHO WE ARE, DEMONSTRATES our sincerity and SHOWS what is important to us.

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO may have started as a cliché but following His example is the really Christian thing to do if we accepted Him into our lives when we said the SINNER’S PRAYER.
